Monday
Tommy’s Drum shop brings the beat at Ruta Maya coffee shop with a drum show at 9 p.m. Ernie Durawa is the special guest and admission is free. This is a great way to get into the groove of finals.
Tuesday
Get your snapping fingers ready and head down to 29th Street Ballroom for their weekly poetry slam. If you miss it this week or enjoy going every week you’ll never be bored because poets must read a new poem every week to enter into the next round and with all this talent floating around ATX you’ll be sure to snap your hands off. The event goes from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. It is $5, but if you’re down to volunteer head the Spider House webpage to see how you can get in for free.
Wednesday
Hole in the Wall is featuring a free show with Black Owl Society, Not Future, and Easy Tiger. It sounds like the perfect study break close to campus while you’re cranking out those finals and papers. It starts at 10 p.m., so I’m sure you’ll be home in time to crank out more schoolwork.
Thursday
We know you don’t like spending money, but if you’re a graduating senior this might be the last time you’ll ever get to do a sing-a-long at Alamo Drafthouse. I can’t think of a better sing-a-long to end the semester than the In Da Club Sing-a-long. It’s $12 and features Usher, R. Kelly, Kanye, Rhianna, and our other favorites. Dancing is encouraged. The party starts at 10 p.m. and Alamo Drafthouse Ritz. Buying tickets in advanced preferred.
Friday
Like punk? Like girls? 29th Street Ballroom, Karaoke Underground, and Girls Rock Camp Austin are throwing an indie/ punk karaoke night called Riot Grrrl. A suggested donation of $5 will be taken at the door and 100% goes to sponsor the camp, so go sing a long and help an Austin organization that promotes rock.
Saturday
We all love food trucks in Austin, so head up north to the North Austin Trailer Yard’s grand opening. It’s located at 1012 W. Anderson Lane and will feature The Dog Pound (hot dogs and snow cones), Michi Ramen (Authentic Japanese noodles), Snarky’s Moo Bawk Oink (sandwiches and doughnuts), plus more. The trucks will be there from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday
It’s Mother’s Day and let’s face it, you should really be with your mom. Why not take her to Mother’s Day in the Park and enjoy the weather and tunes she’ll love? Zilker Park will have marches and musical melodies in honor of your mom. It starts at 7 p.m.
