Thanksgiving is one of my favorites holidays because of two things: Food and Football!!!
My mouth is already watering just thinking about the turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie and the rest of the food that will be sitting on my lap on Thursday.
But what could make this day so much better?
Oh, I don’t know? Maybe, Football!
Kicking off the early game festivities will be the New England Patriots at the Detroit Lions. Ever since I can remember Detroit has been bad! Over the last few years’ rumors have gone around on whether Detroit should keep their Thanksgiving game or not. Right now the Lions Thanksgiving record sits at 33-35 dating back to the ‘60s. Times look like they might be getting better for Detroit as this years’ team has plenty of talent and will compete for a playoff spot over the next few seasons. Too bad they have to play a powerhouse in the Patriots this week.
Patriots 34, Lions 17
The afternoon game is the New Orleans Saints at the Dallas Cowboys in Jerryland. Out of all 3 games in the NFL tomorrow, this one is probably the most interesting one. Compared to last year, the Saints have been a little inconsistent offensively. But over the last few weeks they seem to be headed in the right direction. Getting Reggie Bush back into the line up is only going to help. As for the Cowboys, firing Wade Phillips and giving Jason Garrett the keys has really energized this team. They pulled off convincing wins against the Giants and Lions and look to play spoiler the rest of the season. Too bad it won’t happen this week against the Saints. But at least the Cowboys will look good in their throwbacks.
Saints 34, Cowboys 24
The nightcap of the NFL is between the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets in the Meadowlands. Going into the season both these teams were predicted to make the playoffs, so far the Jets have lived up to the billing with an 8-2 record. The Bengals on the other hand are 2-8 and have found different ways too lose every week. This game might be closer than people think only because of the close wins the Jets have had over the last two weeks. I still think the Rex Ryan-led defense will force Carson Palmer into some turnovers.
Jets 27, Bengals 21
Last, we have the only college football game that happens on Thanksgiving Day: Texas vs. Texas A&M. But, unlike every other year, Texas is the team who is trying to get the bowl bid and Texas A&M has a chance to sneak into the Big 12 Championship. I think it’s funny that people aren’t giving the Longhorns a chance in this one, when the Aggies have had upsets in worse seasons. So, I’m calling the upset.
Texas 24, Texas A&M 21
Enjoy your Thanksgiving, because you know I will!!!
