Study Guide: Austin coffee shops

Need to study hard this dead week, and the PCL just isn't cutting it? Check out this short guide to coffee shops in town, suited for your studying needs.

Cherrywood Coffeehouse

Cherrywood Coffeehouse

This overlooked spot might just be the perfect haven for your exam cram session. With plenty of space and small, cozy rooms, Cherrywood is definitely a good spot to bunker down for a long time.

1400 East 38th 1/2 Street
Mon - Fri 7 a.m. - midnight, Sat & Sun 8 a.m. - midnight
Pros: quiet, relaxed, has food.

East Village Cafe

East Village Cafe

Small and tucked away on the east side, this coffee shop is often uncrowded or empty. It doesn't stay open late, can be very dimly lite, and has limited space, but it's definitely a less distracting location.

1111 Chicon St.
Mon - Sun 7 - 9 a.m.
Pros: no crowds, good service. Cons: small, limited outlets

Thunderbird on Manor

Thunderbird on Manor

This popular spot is always a good choice. It stays open fairly late, and if you get finished studying, you can reward yourself to a draft. This place gets crowded quickly, though, so it's best to stake out a spot and keep it away from all the vultures.

2200 Manor Rd.
Mon - Thurs 7 a.m. - 11 p.m., Fri 7 a.m. - midnight, Sat 8 a.m. - midnight, Sun 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Pros: great coffee, perfect lighting, location. Cons: often crowded

Bennu Coffee

HerCampus

Bennu Coffee

Definitely a great option for an all-nighter. First, it has a great location and plenty of space. Second, it stays open 24/7, which I don't have to tell you is a heaven-sent. Third, the ambience is cozy; just don't fall asleep!

2001 E. MLK Blvd.
Open 24/7
Pros: open 24 hours, carry Torchy's Tacos and Hoboken Pies, cozy, often play quiet classical music

Mozart's Coffee Roasters

Mozart's Coffee Roasters

This lakeside location is a little further out, but it is still and popular location, so good luck getting a spot inside. However, if the weather is right, it's great scenery just might make studying tolerable.

3825 Lake Austin Blvd.
Mon - Thurs 7 a.m. - midnight, Fri 7 a.m. - 1 a.m., Sat 8 a.m. - 1 a.m., Sun 8 a.m. - midnight
Pros: Great scenery, bottomless coffee for $2.99, Cons: mostly outdoor seating (it's cold outside!)

Epoch Coffee

Epoch Coffee

This little hippie haven tends to be over-crowded, since it's another great 24 hour spot, but once you find a spot, it is definitely conducive to some serious studying.

221 W. North Loop Blvd.
Open 24/7
Pros: open 24/7, cozy, carry East Side Pies. Cons: usually play slightly annoying/distracting music and the entire album
