The Horn's Gentleman tells you how to set up your own awesome home bar.
So imagine yourself having some prestigious guests over for a few drinks. You turn to everyone and ask: "Would anyone care for something to drink?" And as everyone gives you their order, you realize that you do not have the necessary ingredients to accommodate. Don't feel ashamed. Even your illustrious Gentleman has been there. But today I will help you to ensure that such a situation does not occur again.
Ok, let's face it, liquor is good in its own respect, but you can't host a proper party on straight liquor alone. Although this list is not meant to be all inclusive, this should suffice to cover basically any drink somebody should throw at you-- though if you have that friend that asks for a mojito when he's over at your place, tell them to order something more reasonable!
-Sweet and Sour Mix
-Simple Syrup: This one is actually easily made at home. Take 2 parts water, one part sugar. Bring the water to boil then add your sugar. Make sure the sugar dissolves and remove from heat. Don't let the water boil too long or the syrup will be too thick. Put it into a container and store for later use. If you're going to use a plastic container, wait till it cools or it will melt the container.
-Milk/Half and Half
-Cola/Diet Cola (for those calorie conscious people)
-Lemon/Lime Soda (Sprite or 7-Up. Really just get some of both)
So having all the liquids is good, but you also have to remember that you need the proper tools to prepare those drinks. Trust me, it is very difficult to cut up a lime with a bottle of bitters, and no one likes drinking their drink from a shoe.
-Shaker and Strainer
I know, I know, the list looks daunting, but you don't have to buy them all at the same time. This should be a good jumping off point to have a well functioning bar at home. That is until you can afford to have that soda gun installed. Hmmmm, one can dream, can't they?
