PREVIEW: Austin PRIDE weekend

This weekend Austin's LGBTQ community have plenty of events going on for their annual PRIDE weekend. Here is a look at what you can expect.

Welcome the official start of the Fall season this Saturday with the third annul PRIDE day. Throughout the day thousands of Austin Gay and Lesbian Pride Foundation (AGLPF) members and supporters will partake in a variety of events. In the morning take a jog, walk, or run your way through downtown Austin in this years 5K Rainbow Run. At the finish line the Rainbow Explosion Party engulfs participants in a sea of color. After the race, walk over to Lady Bird Lake for the PRIDE festival. There will be two stages for music, street performers, local artists and much more. This year the festival is loaded with talent, ranging from drag queens such as Cher impersonator Chad Michaels and Chloe, to musical acts like the sexual charged Peaches, and New Orleans Bounce rapper Nicky Da B. As the sun begins to set the PRIDE parade will take to the streets.

The event is hosted by AGLPF and has continued to go every year. All proceeds collected during the event will go towards local area non-profits. Last year AGLPF was able to donate over $14,000 to such organizations. They hope to exceed that number this year and encourage everyone to come out to show their support while have a great time.
