Yeasayer Fragrant World Deluxe Box Set

Pay, Play or Stay Away #8

Yeasayer Fragrant World Deluxe Box Set

My dad's friends were in town last weekend, and I convinced them not to
see Meatloaf. Instead, they had a drink nearby and could tell just by the sound leak that he'd lost it and it wasn't worth the $50. I'm also confident I was right about Robyn being a great time, even if I had to read The Horn's review to remember what happened. I took the night off of work to see the show and thought drinking two bottles of wine beforehand would be a great way to start the night. One would have been more than enough.

No live shows really stand out to me this week. I considered seeing White White Lights and The Black and White Years Saturday night, but that show is $26, not in Austin, and there's about 3 hours in between the two acts,  which is a long time to be stuck somewhere. I do regret not telling you about Wednesday night's free Ben Kweller show at Blues on the Green. Luckily you can see our photo gallery from the show! Let's hope I didn't miss anything this week.

Pay

Yeasayer (album) Fragrant World Deluxe Package for $60:
Deluxe editions of albums are a mixed bag. Sometimes it's a bunch of expensive crap you don't want (like a $200+ Sigur Ros blanket), and sometimes they give you everything you'd want for a reasonable price. Yeasayer delivers the goods on their new album. For $60, you get the album on double vinyl, a t-shirt, a poster, a CD and a limited edition (300 made) 7" of two songs that aren't on the album (pressed with glitter!) The package ships in late August, so I'd order now. Not convinced? Check out the second single in the "Play" section.

Play

Matt and Kim (stream) "Let's Go"
Just like any Matt and Kim song, this one is fun and should be played loudly to sing along to while driving around in the summer. The album doesn't come out until fall, but put this one on a summer mix now. The video is just Matt and Kim watching a guy dribble a couple basketballs, but it's pretty hypnotic. I bet you watch until Kim hugs him after he dunks at the end. I'm gonna watch it again now.

Yeasayer (stream) "Longevity"
Does music ever make you feel like you're high, even when you're just listening during your dinner break at work? Me too. This trippy Yeasayer video has me eagerly ordering the deluxe version of Fragrant and hoping it's half as good as their last two brilliant albums. Check it out:

Stay Away

Lana Del Ray "National Anthem" video
Stick a fork in Lana Del Ray. This almost eight minute assassination (of taste and JFK) attempts to re-create the marriage of JFK and Jackie O in a bizarre way is worse than watching the Zapruder film of the actual assassination. I got bored and started reading the YouTube comments. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the "shot with Instagram?" comment, I loved the elegance of "this is the most sucky video ive ever seen," and truly appreciated, "Best use of assassination footage since she shot her career on SNL." Zing! Then I saw, "Is she trying to say Obama will be killed? lmao," and hated myself for wasting time looking at any of this. Let's move on.
