The prime suspect of Esme Barrera’s murder was found dead inside his home Jan. 12, according to Austin police. APD linked the man to three attacks on New Year’s Day, as well as to the killing of Barrera through DNA evidence.
James Loren Brown, 25, was found dead inside his home in the 3000 block of Guadalupe Street on Jan. 12, according to the Statesman. Police have called his death a suicide, and say he has also been linked to a series of attacks on women joggers in South Austin last year.
“Although I am not going to say definitively that the suspect … is absolutely the murderer of (Esme) Barrera, we are prepared to say he is a prime suspect,” Chief Art Acevedo said at a news conference Thursday night. “Based on everything we’ve seen so far, we can sleep a little bit more comfortably tonight. We’ve got a predator that is no longer among us.”
Police have little information about Brown as of now, according to the Statesman. He was a military veteran who worked at a business on Lady Bird Lake, and he did not leave a note before committing suicide, police said.
