At around 3:20 a.m. Friday morning, a UT student, whose name will not be released at this time, was involved in an aggravated assault on the block on Martin Luther King Blvd and Trinity St., according to the University of Texas Police Department.
Police reported the suspects were four black males wearing white bandanas who left the scene in a small to medium sized white model sedan with tinted windows heading north on San Jacinto Blvd.
The incident was reported to UTPD at 3:23 a.m. while the first of several automated text message and email alerts was sent out at 3:52 a.m. UTPD advised students to stay clear of the area. An all-clear message was later sent at 4:36 a.m.
“At this time there is no information to suggest this was anything beyond a violent crime of opportunity,” said Charles C. Bonnet, UTPD Investigations Unit Sergeant.
The suspects displayed and threatened the victim with a black, semi-automated type pistol. The victim was struck by one of the suspects sustaining a minor injury.
The aggravated robbery is being considered a “very active investigation” and no arrests have been made yet.
