Alternative rock group Chevelle played a show at La Zona Rosa Wednesday night, with support from American Fangs.
Chevelle performed at La Zona Rosa Wednesday, Dec 14. Opening up for the alternative rock group were Houston's American Fangs.
Powerful riffs and a charismatic frontman in lead-singer Gabriel Cavazos, American Fangs bites with unwavering fervor. Although up-and-coming american Fangs holds their own with upbeat, full-throttle rock.
Chevelle is a classic. Whether it be the fan-favorite "The Red," or their latest hit "Face to the Floor," Chevelle still captivates audiences throughout the world with their distinguishable sound and rock bravado.
Hitting the stage first was American Fangs, who showed no fear from the beginning to the end of their set. Lead singer Cavazos was all over the place. One moment he would be dancing circles around the microphone stand, another he would be in the crowd, dancing with audience members and floating a top a sea of hands. Guitarist Shelby Hohl had no problem following in suit with Cavazos as he jumped around, his energy being propelled by Micah Miller's powerful drums.
Following American Fangs was Chevelle. The crowd began to roar as the members began to walk onstage. A crimson sea of red flashed through the crowd, setting the mood for Chevelle's "Sleep Apnea."
Vocalist/guitarist Pete Loeffler had no problem satisfying fans as his heavy riffs intertwined with brother Sam Loeffler's punching drums and Dean Bernardini's pulsating bass. Through the middle of the set, the group went into "Face to the Floor," which was well-received by the crowd. The distortion began to engulf La Zona Rosa, followed by an onslaught of explosive cymbals. Suddenly, the crowd began to open up as a moshpit slowly began to form.
After "Face to the Floor" Chevelle went through an array of songs; from "Letter From a Thief," to "Vitamin R," the group had fans chanting, jumping and getting rambunctious as the moshpit grew larger.
Chevelle's performance was great in that it shows why the band is still progressing, where as many of their 1999 contemporaries have dwindled down. Fans were reciting each and every song, and that is a testament to the band still making great, head-bobbing rock for everybody to enjoy.
