The anticipation is over. The journey for a college football playoff system has come to a close this Tuesday with its approval.
The specifics have yet to be determined.
The conference commissioners met with a committee of university chancellors and presidents in Washington to discuss the four-team playoff.
The approval will cause the 14-year reign of the Bowl Championship Series to come to an end.
Former Big 12 acting commissioner Chuck Neinas believed that the change had to be made.
"The BCS has done a great deal in helping promote college football," Neinas said before the meeting began. "There's a general feeling we need to do something better to determine a national champion."
The playoff will go into effect for the 2014 season as the BCS contracts currently run through the 2013 season.
