The Texas Longhorns are no strangers to recruiting the top talent across the state of Texas and the country. With the favorable academia, illustrious campus and highest quality of facilities, the University has plenty to offer to high school student-athletes looking to prime their careers for the professional realms.

Sealy, Texas standout receiver Ricky Seals-Jones—the top-ranked pass catcher and second overall prospect in the state of Texas by Rivals.com—had pledged his commitment to the Longhorns on February 22 this year. But with the idea of becoming a two-sport athlete on the gridiron and on the hardwood during his collegiate career, Seals-Jones opened up his recruitment less than four months later. Seals-Jones is rated as the 18th overall prospect in Rivals.com’s Rivals100.

I just wanted to check out my options. I wanted to look at more schools before making my decision.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound receiver, who recently took in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, Ga., has been a heavy recruiting topic since he opened up the door earlier this month. With the prospect of playing two sports when he enrolls as a freshman, Seals-Jones wants to make sure he makes the correct choice.

“I just wanted to check out my options,” Seals-Jones said in an Orangebloods.com report. “I wanted to look at more schools before making my decision.”

Seals-Jones named Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon and Baylor as the schools sitting atop his list of favorites.

Seals-Jones visited Austin two weeks ago, prompting Mack Brown and some of his staff to rearrange their schedules to meet with the talented receiver and his family.

In an interview with Rivals.com’s Mike Farrell at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge, Seals-Jones pinned a Texas re-commitment at 75 percent. Mack Brown and the entire Longhorns faithful have to love those odds.

The ultra-athletic Seals-Jones, who played mostly quarterback for his Sealy team, went out as a receiver during his time in Atlanta over the weekend, and the reviews have been nothing but excellent.

Seals-Jones checked in at a lean and mean 230 pounds at the event and towered over his cornerback counterparts. Despite his early struggles on Saturday, Seals-Jones put in a fantastic Sunday session—including three 45-yard touchdowns.

In what appears to have been a favorable situation for the Longhorns, Texas commit and five-star quarterback Tyrone Swoopes out of Whitewright, Texas roomed together in Atlanta and spent plenty of time together at the event.

According to a Rivals.com report, Seals-Jones has no timetable for a commitment.

“Right now everything is still open so I don’t really have a set time and date for a decision,” Seals-Jones said.
