It looks like The Horn spoke too soon; Oprah’s team tallied the
“Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star: Your OWN Show” votes and previous
vote leader Zach Anner lost 6 million in the process, leading fans to
question the legitimacy of the process.
The contest’s website still lists Anner as first place with 9,161,042 votes, but once you click on the results page,
Anner is listed in seventh place with only 3,484,018 votes. Dr. Phyllis
Tucker-Wicks’ and Jacqueline Wattimo’s votes somehow increased in the
process, while a couple other top fivers dropped off the top eight
completely. Now, at place seven, Anner just made the “Plus Three More
of Your Favorites!” category.
The original plan of the contest was to send only five online finalists
to Hollywood to compete to be one of the ten reality show participants,
which would be whittled down to one winner of a television show on
Oprah’s OWN network. Now, the contest page has announced that “the next
three vote getters” were to join the five finalists, due to the
audience’s “overwhelming response to the online auditions (over 143
million votes!).”
These eight online winners are going up against 35 competitors who were selected during in-person auditions.
It looks like Anner is already fulfilling his promise to bring us a travel show where “things don’t go as planned at all.”
Your OWN Show is to premiere on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network January 2011.
