Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer discovered the driver’s side door of a red Jeep open and the top unzipped. Upon closer inspection, the officer noted the glove box was open and the contents were scattered throughout the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and arrived to inspect her vehicle. No personal property was discovered missing at this time. Loss value: 0.00. Occurred between: 10-30-11 and 11-01-11.

MOOREHILL DORMITORY

Theft: A purple Specialized mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had utilized a cable (not a self-locking cable lock) and a U-shaped lock to secure her property to the bike rack. The type of device being used allowed the user to loop the cable through different areas of the bicycle then secure the loop to the bike rack using the U-shaped lock. The suspect simply cut the cable and rode off on the bicycle. Loss value: $400.00. Occurred between: 10-28-11 and 11-01-11.

During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had taken the time to register property with the University of Texas Police Department. The officer was able to obtain the serial number of the stolen phone. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 10-31-11, between 3:00 PM and 4:45 PM.

Theft: A UT student discovered a wallet sitting unsecured and unattended inside a student study lounge. The student turned the wallet into the front desk Lost and Found. A UT staff member accepted the property. The owner of the wallet was notified that his wallet had been turned in to Lost and Found. The owner of the wallet met the UT staff member and was informed the wallet had not been turned in. During the investigation, the officer learned the student had in fact turned the wallet in to the front desk. UTPD was able to recover the wallet and all of its contents.
